Power of ATM !
The acronym ATM which I am going to talk about is not the famous kiosk Automatic Teller Machine , which revolutionised banking throughout the world or the Any Time Murder jargon , which the Circuit character flaunts throughout the movie.
It was actually christened as Ability To Manage , which got metamorphosised to - Ability To Motivate.
Scores of people have sprung up these days who they say are new age motivation guru's who change the way we think and inspire us tremendously to produce startling results. Not to forget the hefty amount they charge for their motivational courses. You can even fine motivational music which can stir your minds and soothe it.Marketing gimmicks i guess , or it is encashing on the weaker part of the brain. Even highly intellectual and qualified people fall prey to it. As long as they find happiness in it , all is fine.
The other day I had a taste of ATM. My boss was trying to motivate us to try at something new, which could solve a lot of problems. He narrated the inspiring speech of Winston Churchill , which motivated the soldiers to fight and win the war for Britain. Then was this example of a person who saved lives of people in a sinking ship.We stood there gaping at each other. The way in which each example was deliverd was amazing. 'Strech your boundaries' , 'Expand your horizons', were the words!.It was filled with enormous fervour and zeal.
Then came in the example of Jonathan Swift , a sea gull which gets motivated to fly and flies to long distances to discover amazing places. It comes back to share this experiance and motivate the other sea gulls to fly. 'You are the sea gulls' were the words.
The whole rendition was so good that any sea gull would get immensely motivated and would have covered millions of nautical miles of flight. What my boss probably dint knew was that he was trying to motivate a kiwi and not a sea- gull ( height of pessimism . ;-) )
