Precisely one year back , I woke up in the morning at around 7.30 and after my brush, started reading the news paper. The front page news shocked me. It was carrying a picture of our Country's most prolific carnatic musician in this era, Bharat Ratna M.S.SubbuLaxmi.The divine soul had passed away the previous night to reach heavens abode. The fact took a bit of time to sink into my senses.

Amma, as she is fondly called,enthralled millions of music lovers with her voice.The Venkateshwara Suprabhatam and Bhaja Govindam are a must in every house which had some inclination towards carnatic music. The shining diamond nose ring (mukutthi) and the round kumkum were Amma's trademarks , which are now a rarity in itself.

I had an arguement with my friend about the singer of the Suprabhatam in one of the cassette shops.The difference was clearly visible.So imprinted is Amma's voice in the listener, that it becomes very easy to spot any difference in it.I had lost the chance to hear this great musician live.

Some people are born in this world with a specific purpose.Amma was, to sing the greatness of the Lord. It has been one year since this great artist has departed us , but she will come alive every morning with the suprabhatam that will be played in numerous homes for ages to come.

Incidentally today is Gita jayanti, the day Krishna gave Gitopadesa to Arjuna about his karma in this world.As the sun in germany comes up slowly , I celebrate my 24 years of existence in this world.
